Northern Heart have partnered up with Thick Skin, Wigan’s award-winning theatre company, to collaborate on a short documentary showcasing the Generator project, which is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of theatre makers.
In this unique initiative, our Doc Fund grad and Junior Director, Vicky Best, will take the creative lead on the documentary, with mentorship support from our Co Founder Scott Bradley.
“I’m really excited and intrigued to begin work with ThickSkin on their Generator project. Working with theatre companies allows my two passions of theatre and filmmaking to converge. I think my approach to documentary lends itself nicely to capturing the practise of devised theatre. I like to hone in on visual themes, almost chaptering my footage and in the edit, be guided by my material. Much like the construction of a devised piece.”

Supporting new talent is at the core of Northern Heart's future, we're delighted to be able to facilitate this kind of collaboration between industry leading partners like Thick Skin and new filmmaking talent who are emerging through our Doc Fund.
Generator is a celebration of creativity, bringing together 10 young performers and 3 visionary directors to create a compelling piece of theatre, all underscored by an electrifying soundtrack. Devised by the participants, this original production will reflect their lived experiences and aspirations, resulting in a fast-paced, thought-provoking performance that embodies hope and resilience.

The premiere performance of Generator will be held at The Mill at the Pier on the 15th & 16th November, as they showcase local talent and storytelling through Thick Skin’s signature visual and physical style.
