This year, the Northern Heart Doc Fund is bursting with Girl Powerrrr!
We're thrilled to celebrate the three inspirational emerging female filmmakers we're supporting this #InternationalWomensDay
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming these women to our studio, where we chatted ideas over popcorn, watched last years films and got to know each other a little more. We even hosted a drinks social to celebrate their achievements and presented them with their certificates.
While achieving an all-female cohort was unintentional, it highlights the ongoing need for increased representation in the film and TV industry.
Here's some statistics on female directors in the UK Film and TV industry:
- Only one-third of film and TV director roles are filled by women (Televisual, 2022).
- The percentage of films directed by women even saw a decrease in 2022 (Birds Eye View, 2022).
- The commercial directing scene remains even more imbalanced, with less than 7% of directors being women.
Despite these challenges, organisations like We Are Doc Women and Women in Film and TV are working to support, empower, and celebrate women's achievements in filmmaking!
