A great masterclass with Everyday Creatives

Everyday in Wigan invited us to host a masterclass and workshop to 15-25 years olds in the Wigan Borough. It was specifically for young people to get a taster of filmmaking and an opportunity to hear from professionals working in the industry.

We talked about how Northern Heart started and what opportunities there might be in the film and TV industry. We also ran a workshop on documentary interview techniques. Natasha talked through some of the techniques she uses to bring out compelling narratives from interviewees.

To provide the students with an authentic taste of documentary filmmaking, we invited them to conduct real-life interviews with Natasha and the star of our film, 'Joy Uncensored.' This practical exercise allowed them to apply the techniques they had learned and gain industry experience.

We absolutely loved doing it.

For us, it's really important to do these kinds of things. Not only to talk about our own experiences and the opportunities that might be available in our sector, but having faced our own challenges and navigated the industry without similar opportunities in our youth, we understand the impact that these initiatives can have on young minds.

Just being present, open and a friendly human being can go a long way.

The film and TV industry can feel like a scary beast and we're delighted to do things like this, to open our doors, share our work and give a little taster of what we do.

By nurturing the next generation of storytellers, we are laying the foundations of building a more kind and approachable film and TV industry.
